Biomass Plant Coming To South Carolina
Startup company Carolina Renewable Products recently announced a new biofuel plant to be located near Orangeburg, SC. The company’s $280 million investment will create 155 new jobs.
The company plans to convert sustainable woody biomass into renewable diesel, biochar and wood vinegar. CRP recently purchased its inaugural site near Orangeburg that will serve as the company’s headquarters and training hub, and the location of a next-generation biomass-to-renewable diesel facility. Operations are expected to be on-line in late 2026.
The Coordinating Council for Economic Development approved job development credits related to the project. The council also awarded a $750,000 Closing Fund grant to Orangeburg County to assist with the costs of site preparation and building construction.
South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster notes agribusiness is a major state economic driver, and CRP’s announcement is further proof of the industry’s strength. “This $280 million investment will greatly impact Orangeburg County, and we look forward to seeing the company succeed in the years ahead,” he said.
