Biomass Methane Plant Approved In Interior BC

REN Energy International Corp (REN Energy) has received approval from the Regional District of Kootenay Boundary for the development of its renewable natural gas (RNG) facility in Fruitvale, British Columbia. According to REN Energy officials, the project will break ground in early 2023. The plant includes a production facility that will create RNG from wood waste.

REN Energy says the innovative project features an existing technology used in North America for the first time—a fully sealed gasification, syngas cleaning and methanation process. Located in interior BC near the U.S. border, the facility will provide a key market for mill residuals in the area plus small diameter feedstock from forest regional provincial forest health projects. Most of the RNG produced will be purchased by FortisBC, a leading energy utility in the province, and injected into its gas system for consumer use.
