New Hampshire’s largest electric utility has agreed to buy the power produced by a wood-fired generating plant being proposed for Berlin. Public Service of New Hampshire, a subsidiary of Northeast Utilities, says the proposed 70 MW North Country biomass facility would help the utility move toward its goal of getting 25% of its power from renewable energy by 2025. The proposed plant would be on the site of a closed Fraser Papers paper mill in Berlin. The project is still awaiting state approval, but PSNH hopes to start receiving power from the plant in mid-2014.
