In a recent letter to shareholders, Nevada-based Energy Quest‘s CEO Wilf Ouellette noted new projects for the energy development company, including a gasification-to-electricity biomass plant with adjoining algae-based biofuels facility in the tiny town of Piedmont in northeast Alabama.

Working with a local development group for financing, siting and feedstock arrangements, Energy Quest is proposing to provide construction, technology, equipment and a five-year operating agreement. The $80 million plant will produce 24 net MW and up to 20 million gallons of biodiesel annually.

The power generation plant will use four of Energy Quest’s modular fluidized bed gasifiers in tandem, and the facility will also incorporate a stack gas (CO2) capture system that utilizes CO2 as an Algae feed for the bio-diesel growing operation. According to Energy Quest, the plant at full capacity will require 33.5 tons per hour of wood waste feedstock for the gasification process.
